Work on a one billion euro Amazon data centre is to begin soon in Dublin.
The project in Mulhuddart was given the go-ahead last year, with the firm's Irish branch, Amazon Data Services Ireland Limited saying in the past it wants to build seven similar facilities.
The tech giant currently employs over 2,000 people across the country, including at their facility at the Burlington Plaza in Dublin.
The project had been hit with opposition in the past, however appeals were rejected.
The Sunday Business Post reports that when the first phase is completed it will use more energy than 20,000. It will be a 21,000 square metre data storage facility.
In April, Amazon Web Services announced that it would get all electricity it will use in Ireland from a wind farm in County Donegal. Speaking after that announcement, Taoiseach Leo Varadkar said, "AWS's investment in renewable projects in Ireland illustrates their continued commitment to adding clean energy to the grid and it will make a positive contribution to Ireland's renewable energy goals.
"As a significant employer in Ireland, it is very encouraging to see Amazon taking a lead on this issue. We look forward to continuing to work with Amazon as we strive to make Ireland a leader on renewable energy."
