A woman reportedly ended up in hospital after she had a firework thrown at her while out walking in Rathfarnham.

A local group says she was left with burns to her neck after the incident on Monday according to a post on their Facebook page.

Whitechurch Residents Association is urging people to report any incidents to Gardaí.

It follows reports of bangers being put through people's letterboxes in Palmerstown.

While concern has been raised that the usual activity involving fireworks in the run up to Halloween has started earlier across Dublin this year.

Rathfarnham councillor Carly Bailey says the problem is widespread;

"Obviously our thoughts are with this particular lady and we hope that she has a speedy recovery. It's an awful thing to have happened, its a very scary situation particularly when there's an injury involved then as well."

She says more Gardaí are needed out on patrol and she says those selling the fireworks need to be targeted.
