There's rain on the way but the weather is set to pick up towards the bank holiday weekend. The sunny spells are to make a return today, but showers will spread across the country this evening.
According to Met Eireann,
"Today will be mainly dry with bright or sunny spells and a few light showers.
"Cloud will increase this afternoon and rain and drizzle will develop on southwest and west coasts later this evening with highest temperatures of 16 to 20 degrees with light to moderate northwest breezes, becoming westerly.
"Tonight will start off dry in many areas. However rain in in the west and southwest will spread northeastwards across the country. It will become heavy at times overnight with lowest temperatures of 10 to 14 degrees."
Tomorrow is a bit of a mixed bag.
"Thursday will be mostly cloudy. Rain will continue in Ulster for a time in the morning.
"Otherwise there'll be a mix of bright intervals and showers through the day, some of them heavy. Highest temperatures of 15-19C with moderate to fresh westerly breezes.
"On Thursday night, showers will continue and will clear to the southeast overnight. Lowest temperatures ranging from 8C in the northwest to 14C in the southeast."
Meanwhile, things are looking up heading into the weekend, with the highest temperatures of the week forecast for Friday.
Met Eireann continued: "Friday will be a bright day with good sunny spells and some scattered showers. Highest temperatures of 16 to 20 degrees with light to moderate northwest breezes.
"Saturday will be bright also with sunny spells and scattered showers. Highest temperatures of 15 to 19 degrees with light to moderate west to northwest breezes.
"Sunday will bring a fair amount of dry weather and a few showers. Highest temperatures of 15 to 18 degrees with light to moderate westerly breezes."
On Sunday night rain will spread from the southwest. It's reported that rain will affect most of the country on Bank Holiday Monday.
