The inaugural Fingal Fleadh and Fair will take place this September 15th -17th in Swords as part of the Fingal County Council Creative Ireland Programme for 2017.
This event celebrates the strong tradition of music in the Fingal community and will be centred around tuition, participation and performance. The weekend will feature free workshops, concerts and talks by some of the biggest names in traditional Irish Music.
Swords Castle will be at the heart of the event, opening with a very special concert featuring Mike McGoldrick, John Doyle & John McCusker and A Stór Mo Chroí.
A busking competition will take over Swords on Saturday the 16th as Main Street is closed to traffic. The top prize of € 500 will be awarded to the Winners on the Gig Rig and they will get to open for the headline act, Dervish.
The medieval grounds of Swords Castle will host a programme of Workshops, Recitals and Talks in the Séamus Ennis Arts Centre Marquee. This will be surrounded by a vibrant fair of artisan food, drink & craft and a wide selection of Musical Instruments in the beautifully restored Chapel.
A Session Trail around the town will feature performances by musicians from all over the country including Alan Doherty, Karan Casey,TolaCusty, Muireann NicAmhlaoibh and Donogh Hennessy.
The Gig Rig will have free performances from Ulaid, John Spillane, Lumiere, Liam O’ Connor & Seán McKeon and lots more.
