You may have the January Blues at the moment, but 2019 is shaping up to be a great year.

We know it isn't easy facing reality after silly season. The days of eating chocolate for breakfast, tucking into tasty cheeseboards and lounging around in pyjamas seem like a distant memory.

Going back to work and checking your bank balance can leave you feeling a bit glum. However, fear not - we've come to the rescue.

Here's a list of some of the best things to look forward to this year:

Movies

2019 is going to be a huge year for Disney. Live action versions of several classics are heading for the big screen including The Lion King, Aladdin, Dumbo and Frozen 2.

Toy Story 4 will be released in June and it seems it's set to be quite emotional. According to Tom Hanks, the final scene of the film is going to go down as "a moment in history".

Disney will also unveil its own streaming service called Disney+ this year, so you can binge on all of the Disney, Marvel and Star Wars content you want!

If you love superhero movies, Captain Marvel will be released in March and Avengers: Endgame hits cinemas in April.

Elsewhere, Quentin Tarantino will take on the Manson murders in his new movie Once Upon a Time in Hollywood starring Brad Pitt and Leonardo DiCaprio.

TV

Game of Thrones will finally return this year. The eighth and final season of the HBO series will premiere in April.

Jed Mercurio’s Line Of Duty is back in 2019. The acclaimed fifth series about police anti-corruption unit AC-12 is expected to air in April.

Elsewhere, the new season of Luther is currently airing on BBC One.

Fans of The Crown can expect Season 3 to be released on Netflix, probably before spring. Olivia Coleman takes over from Claire Foy in the lead role as Queen Elizabeth.

Season 3 of True Detective starring Oscar winner Mahershala Ali airs on HBO later this month. The show is set in the Ozarks, over three different time periods.

Big Little Lies will return for a second season. Reese Witherspoon and Nicole Kidman will be back alongside Meryl Streep who has joined the cast to play Kidman's mother-in-law.

The new season of Stranger Things will be released on Netflix on the 4th of July.

Reboots

A Clueless reboot is in the works. Men In Black International starring Chris Hemsworth and Tessa Thompson and another Charlie's Angels with Kristen Stewart at the helm are on the way this year.

Music

The Weeknd, Lana Dey Rey, Rudimental, Weezer, The 1975 and Major Lazer will all release new albums this year.

There's speculation Adele, Rihanna, Beyonce, Coldplay and Kanye West will also premiere new material in 2019.

Concerts

2019 is set to be a stellar year for gigs in Ireland.

From legendary artists like Cher and Elton John to iconic bands such as Spice Girls, Boyzone, Westlife and Backstreet Boys all playing Dublin gigs, there really is something for everyone.

Take That, Ariana Grande, Fatboy Slim, UB40, Post Malone and a-ha will all play 3Arena.

Massive Attack, Twenty One Pilots, Nicki Minaj, Shawn Mendes, Michael Bublé, Anne-Marie and Olly Murs are also playing the venue.

Fleetwood Mac, Foo Fighters, Bon Jovi and Pink will perform at The RDS.

Metallica will take to the stage at Slane Castle on June 8th.

George Ezra, Lana Del Rey, Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds and The Cure will headline this summer's Malahide Castle concerts.

Festivals

The Irish festival scene is showing no signs of slowing down in 2019 with some incredible acts announced to perform this year.

Skepta, Elbow, mura masa, First Aid Kit and more will headline Forbidden Fruit across the June Bank Holiday Weekend.

Sea Sessions 2019 will feature performances from Sigrid, Clean Bandit and Two Door Cinema Club from June 21st-23rd in Donegal.

Chance The Rapper, Future and ASAP Rocky will headline Longitude which takes place in Marlay Park from July 5th-7th.

The National are the first headline act confirmed for All Together Now in Waterford over the August Bank Holiday.

Bastille and Biffy Clyro will headline Indiependence.

Elsewhere, the line-up hasn't even been revealed yet but tickets are completely sold out for Electric Picnic 2019. The festival returns to Stradbally, Co. Laois from August 30th - September 1st.

Castlepalooza and Body & Soul have also yet to reveal their headline acts.

Books

If your New Year's resolution is to read more, the below titles might take your fancy.

A sequel to A Handmaid's Tale will hit shelves in 2019. Margaret Atwood's The Testaments will take place 15 years after the events of the first book.

On the Come Up By Angie Thomas, the second novel by the author of The Hate U Give is set to rocket to the top of the charts this year.

City Of Girls by Eat Pray Love author Elizabeth Gilbert is out in June.

Rugby World Cup 2019

The Rugby World Cup kicks off in Japan in September. Ireland head coach Joe Schmidt has decided to step down from his post after the tournament.

If rugby isn't for you, the Cricket World Cup starts in London in May.

Women's World Cup

The FIFA Women's World Cup will take place in June and July of this year in France.

Another Royal Baby

Prince Harry and his wife Meghan Markle are expecting their first child. The pair are set to welcome the newest addition to the Windsor line some time in the spring.
