Before we go any further, we should probably warn you that if you haven't yet watched the season 5 finale of LOVE/HATE and you continue to read this story, we're going to spoil it for you.
Nidge is dead.
Fans of the Dublin gangland drama watched from the edge of their sofas, and the gaps in their fingers, on Sunday as King Nidge fell.
It was Patrick The Peaceful Pipe-bomb Maker that got him in the end, shooting him several times in the back-garden of his hide-out home while Trish and his son, Warren, watched on.
As the credits rolled, though, we weren't 100% sure if Nidge was dead-dead, or dead-and-could-come-back-in-the-next-series-dead.
The actor who played the character has released this statement, which sounds like he won't be back:
"The last five years working on Love/Hate have been an incredible and unforgettable journey for me. I've had the privilege of working with a brilliant cast who I've learnt a huge amount from, a tireless and talented crew, a visionary director, an amazing group of producers from Octagon and RTÉ, and in Stuart Carolan a world class writer.” the statement said.
Tom Vaughan-Lawlor went on to say that he is "hugely grateful to the show and to its fans and I am equally looking forward to the new challenges ahead for me both on screen and stage. As I perform this week in Dublin in Howie the Rookie prior to touring it to London and New York I will take wonderful memories of Love/Hate with me together with all the things I've learnt on the show into my future work."
Long live King Nidge.
