A new homegrown Irish musical which will run at the Dublin Fringe Festival from next week is hoping to 'Make Ireland Grand Again'.
Putting it simply, FIERCE NOTIONS examines whether the phenomenon that allowed Trump to rise to power could ever happen in Ireland, and what would it look like. Those behind the production have described it as "a spectacularly irreverent take on the absolute state of the place and the power of being a character", that includes democracy, politics and... fish-based confectionery products.
"In a world of alternative facts and impulsive late-night tweets from nuclear-code-holders, could Ireland's inherently and historically tribal political system be fertile grounds for cults of personality, just because they seem like 'characters?'', the blurb reads.
The music, by Fionn Foley, is described as "an eclectic blend of 80's synth and gangsta rap with songs that transcend the conventional 'showtune' and look to imitate the dynamic of live rock/electronic music."
FIERCE NOTIONS is being brought to Dublin Fringe by the Ill-Advised Theatre Company, which is the same crowd behind shows like Eamonn (From Menswear), Spring Awakening and Off Key: An Evening with Ill-Advised.
