Benedict Cumberbatch says he's 'devastated to have cause offence' after calling black people 'coloured' on American TV. At the time, the Oscar nominee was arguing that Hollywood offered more opportunities to black actors than the UK.
Afterwards, he released a statement saying: "I'm devastated to have caused offence by using this outmoded terminology. I offer my sincere apologies. I make no excuse for my being an idiot and know the damage is done."
