Another baby elephant has been born at Dublin Zoo. The male Asian elephant calf arrived on Monday afternoon, and is estimated to be 1 metre tall and weighs approximately 130kg. His mum Yasmin was pregnant for 22-months.

Back in March, a female Asian elephant calf was born to mum Dina at Dublin Zoo. Imagine the cuteness of the two calves growing up together!

This new arrival is Yasmin’s fourth calf and the sixth elephant calf born at Dublin Zoo in less than three years. The new-born will join the herd of 10 Asian elephants, including father Upali, in the Kaziranga Forest Trail.

Gerry Creighton, Operations Manager at Dublin Zoo said “We’re very proud of the expanding herd and seeing the eleven elephants together will be a wonderful sight for visitors to the Zoo over the summer."

"Dublin Zoo as one the most successful Asian elephant breeding programmes in the world. The recent births are of huge significance for the future of the endangered Asian elephant", he added.

Dublin Zoo is inviting the public to suggest a name for the new arrival based on his Asian origin. Name suggestions can be submitted at www.DublinZoo.ie.
