A new vinyl walkway has been unveiled at the former home of music recording in Dublin.

Windmill Quarter in the docklands is where the original Windmill Lane Recording Studios once stood.

Performers from Ireland and across the world laid down vocals at the studios, before they moved to Ringsend Road.

U2’s first three albums were recorded there in full, while the band also did a lot of work on The Unforgettable Fire, The Joshua Tree and Achtung Baby.

The studios were also the recording location for albums by a string of international best-selling artists including Kate Bush, Def Leppard and The Waterboys.

21 of the most famous albums recorded there are now have been embedded into the pavement below.

The album covers have been placed beneath perspex glass, and will be lit up at night.

James Morris, the founder of Windmill Lane Recording Studios said:

“This commemorates not just the musical heritage of Windmill Lane but also celebrates the extraordinary talent of those in Windmill".

Niall Stokes, editor of Hot Press, described the studios as:

"A mecca for some of the leading lights of international music".

The Vinyl Walkway is an initiative by Hibernia REIT to recognise the musical legacy of the location.

It forms part of the wider Windmill Quarter, which is a mix of offices, apartments, a gym and shops.

The Arts Minister, Josepha Madigan, described it as "an innovative visual tribute for future visitors to Windmill Lane".

During the construction of the Windmill Quarter, large parts of the infamous graffiti wall were kept and are now displayed at the Teeling Distillery in Dublin 8.
