Dog owners are being asked to help other sick animals by donating their pets' blood.
The UCD Vet Hospital has made an urgent appeal after stocks ran low.
Potential candidates need to be over 25kg, between 1 and 8 years-old, healthy and have a good temperament.
Monica Augusto, a Lecturer in Small Animal Medicine at UCD, explains how it works:
"We give them sometimes a little bit of sedation, but we use a vein, usually on the neck, it is the same type of blood bags and everything else that you would be using with people."
"They go home on the same day."
"They have a little bit of food instead of tea and biscuits, they get some dog food instead."
