Unfortunately with The Late Late Show gone for the summer, there is nothing to replace the void of shouting at the telly on a Friday night... sorry.
Have I Got News For You - BBC1, 9pm
The criticisms about the state of British comedy due to the rise in panel shows in the country has become an easy punching bag. Many commentators blame Have I Got News For You. I say, sod 'em. 25 years after its' debut, this show is as scathing, funny and insightful as it was when it first aired. Tonight is the last in the 49th series with James Acaster & Janet Street-Porter joining Paul Merton & Ian Hislop with Jack Dee presenting.
The Graham Norton Show - BBC1, 10.35pm
Graham and his beautiful beard - yes, it is its' own presence now - are joined by Samuel L.Jackson who is gonna be talking about his movies The Avengers: Age Of Ultron & Big Game which... haven't they been out for a while already; I think he was just over in England golfing and because he's a laugh, just decided to pop along. Also there is the brilliant, the effervescent, the scathing, the take-no-shite Amy Schumer. She is the star of Inside Amy Schumer which airs on Comedy Central Extra and is gas; I mean gaaaaaaaaaaaaaaasssss. If you're not watching it, start and look at her there, drinking on the sofa. You can tell she's the craic. If you don't like hearing the word vagina, she might not be for you. Stephen Merchant, who is eminently fanciable, will be being Stephen Merchant so, perfect. Music is provided by the Mozart/ Queen mash up band that is Muse.
Haywire - E4, 9pm.
This film follows the tale of a black ops agent, played by MMA champion Gina Carano, who has been betrayed by her team and goes to seek revenge. It's a bit shite to be honest. The story meanders without ever getting you emotionally involved. I know, it's an action movie and who cares if you care but still.... it's nice to root for someone. What you should watch this story for is Dublin. A huge part of it was shot here and there's a certain thrill in pointing at the screen and shouting 'I get coffee there/ I walk there/ i saw the guards rip a toe-rag off the street there/ that's where my friend puked on St. Patrick's day...' WARNING: It will make you want to stay in The Shelbourne Hotel, where the above scene was shot. Bloody beautiful.
Another thing about this Steven Soderbergh directed film, it's bloody full of film stars. That's The Fass there on the ground in the picture. Ewan McGregor, Antonio Banderas, Michael Douglas, Channing Tatum and Bill Paxton. He's a film star, right? Well, he was in Twister so that's enough for me. If you like authentic action scenes, look no further than this film. You can hear bones break.
Set the recorder for: Perrier's Bounty - Channel 4, 12.55am
I'm all about the Dublin films tonight. This is another one that will have you sitting up because FIL-UM stars are hanging out where you hang out. It follows the story of Michael, played by Cillian Murphy, who is a waster but has to get himself together when local gang boss Perrier, played by Brendan Gleeson, threatens his life if he doesn't pay off his debt. Again, this is another movie with a bunch of recognisable faces from Domhnall Gleeson to Jodie Whitaker (Broadchurch), Jim Broadbent to Padraic Delaney (The Wind That Shakes The Barley, Raw) Oh, and expect EVERY Irish actor from Game of Thrones to turn up. Worth the watch.
Have a great weekend my friend.
