Former world champion and Olympic silver medallist Amir Khan has defended the involvement of Daniel Kinahan in boxing.

After Kinahan released a statement to British broadcaster Talksport yesterday denying involvement in criminality and confirming he was still involved in the sport, Khan tweeted:

"I've known Daniel for sometime, I have huge respect for what he's doing for boxing. We need people like Dan to keep the sport alive. One of the nicest guys I've met."

Khan's Twitter account has 2.1 million followers.

The former British boxer is an ex-light welterweight world champion.

He is also the WBC President in the Middle East.

Kinahan has no criminal convictions but was named in the High Court in 2018 as a senior figure in organised crime on an international scale.

Sunday World investigations editor Nicola Tallant spoke to OTB AM today about Kinahan's statement, describing it as 'jaw dropping'.
