“The Thought Of Not Being Able To Kick A Ball For A Year Is Scary”

Shamrock Rovers defender Luke Byrne is still coming to terms with the serious knee injury that ended his season.

The left-back tore is ACL (anterior cruciate ligament) and lateral ligaments in his knee five minutes into his first league appearance of the season in Cork last month.

Byrne, who is 22, had just returned from a hip injury that had kept him out since the start of the season and now faces between nine and 12 months on the sideline, as well as a serious operation in three weeks.

Normal life is difficult, he can’t drive, walk his dog or do many of the simple things he usually took for granted.

He gave his first interview the injury on 98FM’s League of Ireland podcast this week.
