This morning on Dublin Talks we had a discussion on the upcoming nurses and midwives strike (against the constant overcrowding in Irish hospitals) which is due to take place on December 15th in the following hospitals:
- Beaumont Hospital
- Tallaght Hospital
- University Hospital Galway
- Mercy Hospital in Cork
- Cavan Hospital
- Tullamore Hospital
We received a message from a man who is disgusted that the nurses are striking and believes they are putting peoples lives at risk and that there should be a law to stop them being able to strike. We asked you if you support the workers in their strike or if you believe that it is a bad idea and that they should be lucky to have a job?
We spoke to a man who said "of course they should strike, they have every right to and have my full support" with many listeners agreeing with him. Another caller then rang in to say "nurses need to stop moaning and get on with it. They knew what they were getting in to when they chose that career path". This angered many of our listeners prompting one man named Michael, whose wife is a nurse, to call in and challenge his views. The debate got very heated.
