Folks,
98FM’s weekly sports show “Now That’s What I Call Sport” airs every Sunday morning from 9-10am.
Presented by myself Johnny Lyons, this week’s show broadcast on Sunday December 14th features the following guests :
- Sean St Ledger –
Great to see the Saint that close to being back to kicking a football in anger again.
The religious one has signed a contract with Championship side Ipswich Town till the end of the season.
And he won’t be short of someone to have a chat with – there are no less than seven Emerald Islers at Portman Road.
The Magnificent Seven indeed !
It’s been a disastrous last two years cluttered with injuries for the cultured centre half who’s won 37 caps for the Republic of Ireland.
It kinda started in the aftermath of Euro 2012 when he played for Ireland in Poland in what was a mediocre tournament for the Boys in Green but a decent enough one for Sean who scored Ireland’s only goal in the tournament against Croatia.
In a sense it was good timing as Sean missed the 6-1 thumping by Germany after that but the other side effects were not so beneficial.
The Saint missed a huge amount of action as he struggled with a bad hamstring injury (medical boffins – too much blood stayed in the area so the muscles didn’t heal) and then he suffered a medial ligament injury which put him firmly on the football backburner.
Groin injuries and other hamstring strains meant Sean pretty much played just a season’s worth of football in three years at Leicester City.
And while watching Soccer Saturday on Sky Sports on a Saturday his self esteem was such that he had to prick himself to remind himself that he was still part of that business.
Groans of a different kind reverberated around the Irish dressing room when Sean butchered “Wonderwall” during his initiation ceremony!
At least he could share the blame - fellow Irishman and Ipswich player Jay Tabb formed a duet with him !
And the horror doesn’t end there – Sean has his Ipswich initiation tomorrow.
A classier affair – he’s chosen “My Girl ” by the Temptations.
Don’t butcher it Sean !
- Tony Ward –
Fantastic to see Wardy back in rude health after his prostate cancer problems.
And doesn’t it bring back happy memories – the sight of Wardy in a Munster jersey in the Guinness ad blastin’ those pesky Kiwis to smithereens on one of the most famous days in Irish sport !
Tony will look back on Leinster’s final European Champions Cup game against Harlequins at the Aviva Stadium – the result will hopefully have propelled the Blues into the knockout stage.
- Albert Vinas –
Johnny goes all tactical !
Warning – this one’s for the purists!
I get down and dirty with the Head of Coaching with the Catalan FA – yep the same Catalonia that has Barcelona as it’s main team!
Eh – suffice to say Albert tutored former Barca manager Tito Vilanova RIP and current midfielder Sergio Busquets.
And yes – there’s a smidgin of Dutch football in there !
Competition :
2 x 2 pairs of tix for Leinster against Connacht at the RDS next Friday night.
Thanks,
Johnny.
