At long last, the Irish summer has arrived. At least for a day to two anyway.

As much as we love the long hot days, the heat brings about one massive problem:  It’s just too feckin hot to sleep at night.

On 98FM's Big Breakfast this morning, you lot were telling us about your crappy night's sleep:

There’s no breeze coming through the window and it feels like someone has set the house to pre-heat at 180 degrees.

It's even worse if you’re sharing the bed.

*DON’T EVEN THINK ABOUT GETTING A CUDDLE*

So, here’s some tips we found on how to cool down for your perfect night’s sleep:

Take a Cold Shower

Try a cold shower, for a quick and easy way to cool down. But avoid freezing water as these can be over stimulating and keep you awake! Your body will also compensate for the cold, by raising your core temperature.

Pillow Flip

One of life’s simplest pleasures: Flipping the pillow to reveal the cold side. Do this a couple of times through the night if the heat is getting to you.

Freeze your sheets

This is actually a thing... Stick your bed sheets and your pillow cases in the freezer for a few hours before you go to bed. It might be a little frosty hopping in first, but you’re body will warm it up. Your very own ice bed!

Go Solo

Banish your other half to the spare room. Sure what use are they in that heat anyway.

Open Windows on Opposite Sides of the House

This should create a good flow of air circulation around your place. Just beware of burglars and noisy neighbors. Maybe get some ear plugs too.

Cool down your pulse points

Your pulse points are the parts on your body where you can feel your heartbeat, i.e. your wrists/neck. Put your wrists in to a deep bowl of water to help you cool down or under the tap for a half a minute.

Create Your Own Air Conditioning

Not getting much satisfaction from your fan? Place a bottle of Iced water in front of the fan, this should cool down the air as it passes by. Or you can also use a large basin of iced water.

Eat Spicy Food

Ever wonder why spicy food is so popular in  hotter climates? It actually helps you cool down by making you sweat. What a great excuse for getting an Indian take-away tonight.. mmmm...

Drink Plenty of Water

Overall it’s best to keep hydrated, so make sure you’re drinking enough water!
