What is it about a good aul sad song that makes you feel a little bit better after listening to it?
Well researchers in the UK have found that a range of emotions are triggered after listening to a soppy song and they're not all sad feelings, like you might have assumed.
After surveying over 2,000 people, they found that many people experienced pleasure from sad music, while others claimed that melancholy music was actually quite comforting.
In the same way as you might enjoy a film that makes you cry, or a sad tv show or book.
The research also found that the memories you've attached to a particular song, can have an affect on how the song ultimately makes you feel.
Here on 98FM's Big Breakfast, we wanted to find out what would make the ultimate sad songs playlist and we got some great suggestions:
All by Myself - Celine Dion
Adele, the perfect accompaniment to any break-up:
No surprise that James Blunt got a mention:
With or Without you - U2
Try make it all the way through Tears in Heaven without tearing up..
Everybody Hurts - REM
Have the tissues on stand by for the end of this song:
"Did you ever know that you're my herooooooo?"
Say Something, I'm giving up on you - A Great Big World ft. Christina Aguilera
Why does my heart feel so bad - Moby
A lot of you texted in Sínead O'Connor's 'Nothing Compares to You'
Hopefully you feel a lil' bit better after all of that, if not... we're sorry!
