Folks,
98FM’s weekly sports show “Now That’s What I Call Sport” airs every Sunday morning from 9-10am.
Presented by myself Johnny Lyons, this week’s show broadcast on Sunday January 11th features the following guests :
- Stephanie Roche –
Well now you just couldn’t have a sports show this week without featuring the sportsperson du semaine !
Steph’s is the feelgood story of the year – even if it’s in it’s infancy – and by Monday evening she could be the name on everyone’s lips!
Cos she’s in line to win FIFA’s Puskas award for Goal of the Year which is announced at a special ceremony in Zurich.
Roche has competition and then some – only up against Colombia’s finest James Rodriguez of Real Madrid and Manchester Utd’s Dutch cream of the crop Robin van Persie.
It is already history making as she was the first ever female to avoid the shortlist cull.
The goal – an incredible three touch swivel effort scored while playing for Peamount Utd against Wexford Youths in October 2013 and captured on camera by her manager Eileen Gleeson – has attracted 6 million hits on YouTube.
So who is Steph ?
Well she’s 25 years young and plays her football in France for a club called Albi.
Though it appears it’ll be au revoir France soon after six months there.
Steph’s an international but it hasn’t all been plain sailing playing for Ireland – she wasn’t a regular for manager Sue Ronan during the recent World Cup qualifiers but did earn a bit of a reputation as a super sub !
Anyway, it’s all eyes on Zurich Monday night as this Dubliner looks to bag one of the most prestigious awards in world football!
And there’s still time to vote for her !
- Sarah Beck –
You’ve heard of the Fosbury Flop – you’ve heard of the Cruyff Turn.
And now you’re gonna hear about the Beck Balance Beam !
Incredibly, a skill in gymnastics is gonna be named after a young Irish girl.
Sarah is from the North and is aged just 17.
We’ll find out from Sarah why the new skill was named in her honour and we’ll check up with her as to how she’s gettin’ on with her preparations for Rio 2016.
- Grant Best -
A fascinating individual is our Grant !
He’s the Senior Executive Producer at BT Sport – so he’s a bigshot!
Grant tells us all about the leviathan that is BT and – would you beggar believe it – he mentioned the dreaded S word before I did – yeah Sky gets a mention or two !
I didn’t give him a soft landing with the opening question ! - as you generally do – and so we go straight for the jugular Jeremy Paxman style from the off!
Just kiddin but we did bypass the foreplay so to speak and just went for it!
Competition :
An overnight stay with full board for two at a Flynn Hotel of their choice.
Thanks,
Johnny.
