Bohemians 0-2 Cork City

Cork City moved nine points clear at the top of the SSE Airtricity League Premier Division thanks to this 2-0 win over Bohemians at Dalymount Park on Friday night.
The opening goal came five minutes before half time and it was a contender for goal of the season.
Karl Sheppard’s volley flew by Shane Supple and into the top corner with the help of the post to secure Cork’s ninth win from nine league games.
Sean Maguire set up Garry Buckley for the clincher with three minutes left.
It’s now three defeats on the spin for Bohs, whose focus now turns to rivals Shamrock Rovers in the EA Sports Cup second round on Monday.
Bohs started the game the better of the two teams. Their first half chance came in the sixth minute.
Dan Byrne’s long ball was well chested down by Oscar Brennan but the ex Cabinteely man’s shot was easily saved by Cork ‘keeper Mark McNulty who was wearing very unusual all black gloves!
Then Paddy Kavanagh played inside to Brennan, but shot was well tipped over by McNulty.
The leaders settle and head a penalty claim for a foul on Sheppard by Bohs’ keeper Supple turned down.

Bohs half cleaned Kevin O’Connor’s corner, the ball dropped to Sheppard outside the box, he waited, watched it drop onto his right foot, and BANG, it flew into the top corner with the help of the post right in front of the Cork fans.
It was scored in the same goal that St Pats’ Conan Byrne scored his halfway line effort two weeks ago, you’d have to feel for Shane Supple.
Even the Barcelona U13s who were among the 2,214 in attendance were on their feet.
Bohs could have been level on the hour mark, but McNulty blocked Georgie Poynton’s shot from close range.
The home team were pushing for an equaliser and threatened via corners and free kicks from Lorcan Fitzgerald and long throw-ins from sub Ian Morris, but they couldn’t equalise.
And then Cork made it 2-0.
Maguire rolled Dan Byrne and crossed for Buckley to nudge the ball in at the near post.
This may be the last ever season at the famous old Dalymount Park, as the sign old main stand reads – “The Home Of Irish Football”, they can add “The Home Of Great Goals”
John Caulfield’s team are now nine clear at the top of the table, the league title is now theirs to lose, even if we are less than a third into the new season.
