This morning on Dublin Talks we had a discussion on borrowing money from loan sharks for Christmas after a report was released saying that over 51% of people have borrowed money for Christmas.

A mother of 4 rang in to tell us that she borrows €2000 every year just so that she can spend €500 on each of her children. She then told us that she pays back the money throughout the year with huge interest but said she doesn't mind because "it's Christmas time and they deserve to get everything they want". Many of our listeners were infuriated by this and we received numerous calls and texts from people to say that she is completely irresponsible and she should cut her cloth to suit her measure.

What happened next annoyed our listeners even more.

Another mother (of 3 young children) then called in to say that because of their financial situation this year Santa won't be coming to their house and there will be nothing under the tree on Christmas morning for her kids. She told us that her kids are okay with it and were very understanding.  Some people believe she is "totally heartless" and that "it is completely unfair on her children".

The phone lines went crazy with people trying to call in to speak to both of these women and the debate got very heated. Hear what happened here >>>>>>>
