If Richard Curtis movies are anything to go by, romance is declaring your love in the rain; carrying your wheelchair bound wife up the stairs every night; learning Portuguese to win the heart of a waitress and travelling through time in order to become a better lover. I have found all of this to be true in my own life but, sadly, this is not the case for most people. Lousey.

This morning, Ray and JP got all romantic up in Muireann's face telling her of their romantic ways.

So, what are the gestures that men think are the height of romance:

Surprise bouquet of flowers - just do it. Easy win. And they're so pretty.

Cooking dinner - that's just making sure you're body doesn't die. Sustenance isn't romantic.

Putting the bins out - again, something that has to be done unless you want to be one of those weirdos on a hoarders show.

Cleaning the house - see above.

Ironing - stay wrinkley. Ironing is a waste of everyone's time.

Relinquishing the control of the TV remote - how did you get it in the first place? Never give that bad boy up.

Leaving the toilet seat down - if your partner breaks her arse on a ceramic rim in the middle of the night from sitting down without the seat, you're gonna have to do everything in the house for a week so, it's in your interest. Not romantic.

Just gonna remind you of on of the definitions of Romance: to try to persuade, as with flattery or incentives. Ironing isn't flattery.

Join Ray, JP and Muireann every weekday morning on The Ray Foley Show from 6-10am only on 98FM.
