Sean Maguire's star continues to rise.
He scored twice at Tallaght Stadium to help league leaders Cork City win their 5th league game in a row to remain at the top of the SSE Airtricity League Premier Division table.
His penalty with four minutes left clinched all three points in a match Rovers deserved something from.
Maguire has scored in every league match this season and already has six goals.
Cork took the lead in the 8th minute and their goalscorer was no surprise.
Maguire scored for the 5th league match in a row and he’ll never score an easier goal in the League of Ireland.
It was a disastrous goal for Rovers to concede and one of the worst goalkeeping mistakes you’ll see all season.
Tomer Chencinski tried to avoid giving away a corner after Dan Devine’s back pass header, but as he slid to keep the ball in, he dropped it.
Maguire robbed him and scored into an empty net from almost in the goal
Rovers’ new keeper looked a little nervy.
A Cork wide free kick whipped in by Stephen Dooley caught the wind, Chencinski dropped it but grabbed it at second attempt.
He did well to tip a Kevin O’Connor free kick over the bar moments later.
Rovers equalised from the penalty spot eight minutes before the break.
Darren Meenan’s cross was handled by Conor McCormack.
Graham Burke (below) stepped up and although Mark McNulty went the right way, the power on the low shot beat him to make it 1-1, Burke’s second goal in two appearances this season.
Rovers could have gone into the half time break ahead but McNulty saved Ronan Finn’s header from Simon Madden’s cross.
A disappointing second half failed to produce many real chances for either team.
Burke found Finn after an hour but his deflected shot was saved by McNulty as Rovers looked the more likely to find a winner.
Their best chance to win it fell at the feet of Burke after a clever set piece routine, but his effort from Meenan’s pass hit the crossbar.
And then totally against the run of play, Cork won a penalty after Dave Webster tripped Maguire.
The league's best striker kept his cool to send Chencinski the wrong way and make it five wins from five for John Caulfield's team.
