Philly McMahon is fully behind a proposal to move the All-Ireland Final back to the August Bank Holiday Weekend.

It's the hope of the newly-formed Club Players Association that a tighter inter-county championship will free up the scheduling of club fixtures.

Proposal's for a restructure will go before Congress next month.

The Ballymun Kickhams clubman has welcomed the establishment of a group concerned with the welfare of club players throughout the country "I think it's a good move to have a supportive body for the club players. It's very important"

Mcmahon also revealed that several inter-county players were asked about finishing the Championship earlier in the year saying "I know my vote was 'Yes, definitely' because the club players are waiting around a lot."

"We need to make sure we're looking after all the different levels of the GAA. It's a really good step forward for club players, and I hope the CPA gets the same recognition as the GPA, for what they're doing."
