We've never been a big fan of the monarchy in Ireland and finally got rid of them in the 20s but there is one person many would gladly hail as their Queen and that's Panti Bliss.
Rory O'Neill, in his drag persona of Panti, was at the forefront of the marriage referendum this year after his 'A Noble Call' speech in the Abbey in 2014. This all came about because of Pantigate.
At the time, Rory was being followed around by cameras. In fact, he had been followed around since 2010 as Conor Horgan was making a film about him and now it's here. The Queen of Ireland is released in cinemas today and both Rory and Conor dropped in to The Ray Foley Show this morning where we talked about Rory giving is all a go off awards, what the Minister for Justice wears in her down time and Panti for President. And by dropped I do kinda mean dropped. You'll understand when you hear it.
The movie is insightful and heartfelt. It serves as cinematic snapshot of an incredibly important period in Ireland's history and has the added bonus of being gas craic. You will also see pearls used in a way you had never thought of... or maybe you have. I don't know your search history.
