98FM’s weekly sports show “Now That’s What I Call Sport” airs every Sunday morning from 9-10am.
Presented by Stephen Doyle for the next three Sundays while Johnny Lyons is on his jollies!
This week’s show broadcast on Sunday June 21st features the following guests :
Dave Connell: The man who guided the Irish women's under-19s team to the 2014 UEFA European Championship semi-finals (only to be beaten by the eventual champs, Holland) is at it again! This time Dave is managing the under-17s who travel to Iceland this week for the European finals where they take on France, Norway and Switzerland. Dave will speak to us live from Iceland ahead of the tournament which kicks off on Monday and will also give his thoughts on the Women's World Cup which has produced some thrilling matches so far.
Ciaran Whelan: They say he is the greatest Dublin player never to win an All-Ireland. Ciaran was one of the best midfield generals ever to wear the blue shirt but plied his trade within that period between the successes of '95 and 2011. Wheelo gives his views on the current crop and also speaks about the current calls from around the country to revamp the Champo.
Nikki Evans: It was heartbreaking yesterday, to watch the Irish hockey team come agonisingly close to automatic qualification for Rio 2016 but to be beaten by China on penalties after a match-winning performance could only produce a draw. It's not over yet though! Ireland can still qualify and have more matches to play this weekend. Nikki, who achieved a superb 100 caps with her country this week, will speak to us live from Valencia where hopefully Ireland will be that bit closer to qualifying for next year's Olympics.
Damien Lynch: The first-half of the League of Ireland has been a white-knuckle ride! Dundalk looked like they were going to wrap up the title by June but then along came Bohemians. Bohs put an end to the champions' unbeaten record and followed that up by doing the same to Shamrock Rovers the following week! The Hoops have underwhelmed so far this season but are still hanging on in there while down the road in Inchicore St Patrick's Athletic have produced some wonderful football but have also hit the skids at times. Their former skipper and friend of the show, Damien Lynch, will give his League of Ireland mid-term report this Sunday.
Competition : A pair of tickets to the Leinster Football Championship semi-final day at Croke Park where Dublin take on Kildare in both the minor and senior Championship.
