The Ireland women have a new Head Coach.

Colin Bell officially took over from Sue Ronan today.

Bell is from Leicester but has lived and worked in Germany since 1982.

He guided FFC Frankfurt to glory in the UEFA Women's Champions League in 2015 before leaving the club the following year.

Bell also worked under Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp at Mainz for five years.

He joins from German club SC Sand.

The 55 year old was a happy man when we spoke to 98FM Sport’s Jamie Moore at FAI HQ in Abbotstown on Monday morning.

He’s setting his sights on qualifying for a major tournament for the first time ever, leading the girls in green to either a European Championships or World Cup.

Ireland are currently ranked 34th in the World Rankings but Bell is planning to bring them to the next level, starting with the Cyrpus Cup in March.

The new Head Coach has been outlining his plan to win

Bell began his new role by naming a 20 woman squad for the Cyrpus Cup which takes place in March.

He's spent hours studying videos and DVDs of all of Ireland's games and even some training sessions from over the last two years.

Getting to know his players as people off the pitch, is as important as what they do on it.

Bell's squad is made up of familiar faces, including Ireland's most capped women's senior international in goalkeeper Emma Byrne.

There are seven home-based players included in the squad.

Ireland will play Czech Republic, Hungary & Wales before friendly games against Slovakia, Iceland and Scotland.
