98FM's weekly sports show "Now That's What I Call Sport" airs every Sunday from 9-10am.
Presented by myself Johnny Lyons, this week's show broadcast on Sunday August 24th features the following guests :
1. Mossy Quinn -
We've arrived at the business end of the gaelic season.
For the uninitiated, this is when there's no room for slip ups, no second bite at the cherry and if you lose you most certainly are eliminated.
Mossy's been there - winning an All Ireland with the Dubs in 2011 - so there's no better man to look forward to the Dubs' All Ireland semi final against Donegal on Sunday week.
And - with those cocky blighters from the Kingdom firing off messages warning "we're comin' for ya !" - sure we'd have to conduct a civilised analysis of Kerry's semi against Mayo at Croker on Sunday!
2. Eoin Wearen -
Fresh from a Goal of the Month nomination for his effort against St Pats (shifted the ball from right to left before whacking an exocet into the corner of the onion sack) Bohemians' Eoin joins us for an oul look at the League of Ireland.
Now Eoin is catching up on lost time having done what all footballers fear - rupture the cruciate ligaments.
That put him out of the game for 10 months and effectively ended his burgeoning career at West Ham Utd.
But Eoin's back with a bang and enjoying his new lease of life at Dalymount (just watch that area around the penalty spot) !
3. Andrew Gallimore -
As director of a new GAA documentary "Home from Home", Andrew got down and dirty with four gaelic communities in London, Dubai, Toronto and Christchurch.
The programme's about the role played by GAA clubs in the Irish emigration experience around the world.
We'll talk to the Welsh born Andrew about the different reasons for involvement in the GAA community, for example the experiences of property developer Sean Farrell in Christchurch who immersed himself into the flock because he wanted to keep the Irish working Down Under.
And we touch on the different expectations of the Irish with the kids of today not used to having to muck in and break sweat with the assortment of tasks that have to be done around the clubs!
4. Julian St Lawrence -
I remember playing pitch and putt in Belfield and crazy golf on my summer holliers when I was a nipper in small pants !
But FootGolf? What's that? Well it's the new craze sweeping the country!
You kick a football around an 18 hole golf course - it's all done and dusted in 90 minutes.
The sport started in Holland around eight years ago and we get the lowdown on it from the proprietor of Ireland's first internationally recognised FootGolf course at DeerPark in Howth Castle.
5. MMA Special -
This thang is catchin' on big time in Ireland so that - after the recent Conor McGregor sellout at the O2 - we sent Stephen Doyle to do a special on it that's so special, well you'll have to tune in to find out!
Competitions :
- 4 x 2 passes for FootGolf at DeerPark
- Pair of Davin Stand Lower tix for the Croke Park Classic at Croke Park next Saturday between University of Central Florida and Penn State
Thanks,
Johnny.
