Folks,
98FM's weekly sports show "Now That's What I Call Sport" airs every Sunday morning from 9-10am.
Presented by myself Johnny Lyons, this week's show is broadcast on Sunday January 19th and features the following guests :
1. Eric Miller -
A backrower who roared with the Lions in his heyday, Eric knows about performing under duress at the highest level and producing the goods.
So there's no better man than the Ireland and Leinster stalwart to look back on the Blues' last group game in this year's Heineken European Cup.
It hasn't been vintage Leinster as they came a cropper at home to Northampton but mebbe they're saving the best win till last !
They play Ospreys at the RDS on Friday night and Miller analyses the good and not so good of the opening six games in this year's competition.
2. Seamus O'Connor -
Incredibly young Seamus is competing for Ireland at the Winter Olympics in Sochi,Russia at the tender young age of 16.
The San Diego native's been snowboarding since he was four and qualifies for Ireland through his grandparents who were from Dublin and Drogheda.
This Californian dude throws phrases like Half Pipe and Slope Style around the shop with abandon and no doubt snowboards the same way!
Seamus is particularly delighted at the location of the Games as Sochi is near the border of Georgia and that's where his mother's family comes from.
We hear from Seamus about how he's gettin' on with his preparations and hear his views on the horrific accident suffered by Michael Schumacher and the inherent dangers of participating in winter sports.
98's very own winter sporter Emmet Condon survived the perils of surfing last week and now he gets down and dirty with Ireland's top snowboarder.
3. Shane O'Connor -
Let me fill you in on a little Johnny secret!
I hate the snow! Absolutely despise it with every molecule of my body that could possibly fall on it!
When you're 6 foot somethin', believe you me, it's a long way down to the ground!
If I never saw snow again except on a John Hindeesque postcard, Johnny'd be a happy man !
But - the man that I am - I am more than happy to give you World Snow Day!
52 locations across the world are celebrating this very special 24 hours to do with all things glacial including the Ski Club of Ireland in Kilternan.
Apparently there's tubing for the nippers, free style for the big 'uns and ski lessons for everyone.
So there !
President of the Ski Club of Ireland is Shane O'Connor who represented Ireland at the Vancouver Winter Olympics four years ago and he'll fill us in on all the happenings.
But while all this adoration of the whiteness is going on, methinks I'll have a pint of the black stuff on Sunday afternoon !
4. Sean Kennedy -
Who knew there's a top European indoor tournament taking place this week in Stillorgan?
Yep the Irish Open Tenpin Bowling Championships are on up at Leisureplex across the road from Stillorgan Shopping Centre.
More than 190 bowlers from 10 countries are competing for a prize fund of 17 and a half grand.
Sean is the mainman at Leisureplex and he'll tell us what's to look forward to on the final day of the competition.
5. Nigel Gahan -
It's a Very Special Day for Nigel and the rest of the Gahan family tomorrow night.
Their company Gahan Meats won the Bank of Ireland "Sponsor for a Day" competition tieing in with the Leinster-Ospreys game at the RDS.
They won a sponsorship package worth 50 grand which includes company logos on the one off Leinster shirt for the match.
Nigel - who runs a butcher shop in Killester - comes on and gives us the lowdown on the hoedown.
Oh and Philip Egan can vouch for the quality of their steaks !
Scrumptious he says!
Competition :
A night for two with dinner included at one of the O'Flynn Hotels in either Kilkenny, Cork, Waterford or Clare.
Thanks,
Johnny.
