Folks,
98FM's weekly sports show "Now That's What I Call Sport" airs every Sunday morning from 9-10am.
Presented by myself Johnny Lyons, this week's show broadcast on Sunday January 26th features the following guests :
1. Shaun Edwards -
It's not often we have an OBE recipient on the show.
As well as a Man of Steel!
But it's all change this week as Shaun ticks the box on the two of those.
In a Six Nations special on the eve of the Championships, the Wales defence coach gives an exclusive interview to 98FM.
Edwards works under the guidance of Warren Gatland with the Welsh who are going for a hattrick of Championships.
He airs his views on the destination of this year's 6 Nations, extols the virtues of George North and Alex Cuthbert! and praises the evergreen BOD.
He believes in cross pollination as he was one of the greatest ever Great Britain rugby league players before changing codes at the end of his playing career and teaming up with Gatland at Wasps before moving with the Kiwi and former Ireland boss to the Wales posting.
Shaun was 1990's Man of Steel (rugby league's Player of the Year) after playing for most of that year's Challenge Cup final with a broken cheekbone and eye socket.
The early noughties were a difficult time for him as his younger brother Billy-Joe died in a car crash.
And one for trivia fans - Shaun has a nipper with Heather Small the lead singer with M People!
2. Don Hutchison -
The Don has his own claim to fame to match the accolades given to Shaun.
Don's one of the select few to have played for both Liverpool and Everton.
Hutch starred in the young Liverpool team of the early '90's along with the equally baby faced Jamie Redknapp and Mike Marsh.
Known for a colourful existence off the pitch, Don left for West Ham where he was known as "Budweiser" following a drunken incident in Ayia Napa!
But he got serious with his career after that and matured into an excellent attacking midfielder/centre forward.
So much so that he was able to rejoin the Hammers for a club record 5 million pound fee in 2001.
The English born Hutch is a living legend in Scotland for whom he netted the winning goal against England at Wembley in a Euro play off!
Don comes on the show to mull over the burning hot soccer issues of the weekend, no doubt the subject matter including a certain Juan Mata transfer to Man U !
3. Tony Ward -
In Shaun Edwards we have the Welsh perspective on the upcoming 6 Nations.
And so we enlist the services of one of our regular contributors in Wardy to provide a comprehensive preview of the Championship from the Irish angle.
While hopefully - ahead of his usual detailed pull out on the Schools' Cups - Tony will be tipping Blackrock for another Leinster Schools gong!
Remember - you can't Knock the Rock!
4. Leopardstown Special
98s Horse Racing Correspondent Denis Kirwan previews Sunday's BHP Insurance Irish Champion Hurdle which sees champion hurdler Hurricane Fly attempt to see off the challenge from the young pretenders Jezki and Our Conor.
Amongst the interviewees are Willie Mullins, Ruby Walsh, Tony McCoy and Danny Mullins.
Competition :
The last of the Christmas gear to give away including Celtic and Lions DVDs, Under Armour body shirt, Pele t shirt, the Season of Sundays photobook and even an Airbourne tee !
Thanks,
Johnny.
