Folks,

98FM’s weekly sports show “Now That’s What I Call Sport” airs every Sunday morning from 9-10am.

Presented by myself Johnny Lyons, this week’s show broadcast on Sunday June 14th features the following guests :

-          Kevin Kilbane/Gareth Farrelly –

Hoots mon!

It’s all about the Republic of Ireland v Scotland this weekend in the do or die European Championship qualifier at the Aviva Stadium on Saturday.

And – as you know – I’m a method journalist so I’ve been reading my back issues of “Tiger and Scorcher” and re checking out the infamous exploits of Hamish Balfour, the 6 foot 10 gentle giant from the Hebrides, who found fame and glory with the fabled Princes Park.  Hamish had the fiercest shot in the business  and – as you know – if it wasn’t for the netting his shots would still be airborne!

After nights of late night poring over my back issues, sure wasn’t I feelin’ a bit peckish and what better way to round off the early morning by scoffing a few packets of Tunnock’s Teacakes -   Uddingston’s finest! Yummy!

And listening to “The Crossing” by Big Country – one of the best ever debut albums. For those of you not fans of Celtic rock, check out “Chance” from the album – a great big emotional rollercoaster of a ballad that tugs at the emotional heartstrings !  (No Mr Music Director – I don’t have any Bay City Rollers elpees)!

While it’s not quite Braveheart territory, the football will be close to 13th century exchanges with a battered and bruised ball pretty much in the air for nigh on 90% of the time.

So it’s no place for the fainthearted – or Wes Hoolahan !

The Tartan Army will be comin’ over in their droves and so is KK who joins us live in studio.

Always my privilege to have a dude with 110 caps sittin’ beside me!

And we kick off the show with former international midfielder Gareth who also has some interesting views on asking footballers to play at their peak having not kicked a ball in anger for 2 weeks after the end of their domestic seasons.

We’ll also have all the post match reactions from the Aviva Stadium with our roving reporters Stephen Doyle and Jamie Moore sticking the microphones in front of Irish manager Martin O’Neill and Scots boss Gordon Strachan and the Irish and Scottish players.

-          Cathal Pendred –

The Dubliner fights Augusto Montano in UFC 188 in Mexico City early in the hours of Sunday morning and our MMA man Fergus Ryan will have all the latest on how he does in his fourth top flight outing.

But the 6 foot and something monster and one time flanker with Belvedere College (Irish prop Cian Healy was also on the team) believes “The Notorious” is great for Irish sport. Pendred is sure Conor McGregor’s feelgood factor will rub off on other Irish fighters and give Irish sport a welcome shot in the arm in the process.

Grabbing a few words with him in the Land of the Aztecs during the week, Cathal acknowledged the recent across the board Reebok deal (which forbids individual sponsorship deals and will net him just 2,500 shekels every now and then) will hurt him bigtime in the pocket and recommended “The Ultimate Fighter” reality tv show house to other combatants as a means to make your way into UFC.

I wonder how Hamish Balfour would get on against Cathal ?

Competition :

Friends of Dublin Football goodies including travel mugs, coffee mugs, phone covers, ipad covers, beanie hats and  his and hers polo shirts all packed in a Friends of Dublin Football bag.

Thanks,

Johnny.
