This morning on Dublin Talks we discussed domestic abuse after being contacted by a listener named Carly, who has very little respect for women who stay with abusive men, especially when they have children.
The woman who contacted us said she is "sick and tired of hearing women whinging and moaning about being in abusive relationships and yet don't leave these men". She also told us she has no sympathy for them and said "they need a good shaking". She did not hold back on her views.
This upset and shocked many of you and we heard from a LOT of callers who disagreed with what she had to say. She was branded "heartless" "ignorant" and "brain dead" by many callers who phoned in to challenge her.
We spoke to various callers (some who have been in the situation or know people who've been in the situation) who were extremely and sickened by her comments.
We then heard from a girl whose mother was regularly beaten by her father when herself and her siblings were younger. She told us of the affect this had on them all and how they will never forgive their mother for staying with him and not having the courage to leave.
The phones were jammed with callers who wanted to speak to Carly!!
