Dublin woman Shannon did just that.
She joined Adrian Kennedy on 98FM's Dublin Talks to bring us inside the camps in Calais and Dunkirk and told Adrian about the people living there.
We asked if Ireland as a country should be doing more to help.
Other callers disagreed with Shannon's view of the camps, with an international truck driver painting a very different picture of how some of these refugees behave.
98FM's Jeremy Dixon also expressed his interest in going to work in one of these camps with Shannon, who plans more trips.
