It was 11.15am on Tuesday the 22nd of September 2015.
Northampton Town midfielder Paul Corry had just ruptured his Anterior Cruciate Ligament in his left knee during training.
He also had a grade 3 tear of his Lateral Cruciate Ligament and a grade 2 tear of his Medical Cruciate Ligament and ruptured his meniscus.
He had a four hour operation ten days later, and had 45 staples inserted to close up his wounds around the areas of his knee that were reconstructed.
Almost 15 months later, the former UCD and Sheffield Wednesday midfielder is back in Dublin, getting ready to play in the League of Ireland for the first time since 2012 having joined Shamrock Rovers.
And to play a competitive football match for the first time since his injury.
He joined Now That’s What I Call Sport presenter Jamie Moore for a chat on Friday.
And says his knee is 100% ready for the start of the new season in February.
Maccer
The 25 year old played with new Shamrock Rovers Sporting Director Stephen McPhail at Sheffield Wednesday.
McPhail was appointed to his new role last month, the first of it’s kind in Ireland. With Head Coach Stephen Bradley working alongside him, they’ve been given the task of bringing The Hoops back to the top.
Corry says his former team-mate, who in effect is now his boss, is the perfect man for the job.
But will his views on the game change from the pitch to the club office?
And is a lack of experience in this current job a concern?
Corry doesn’t think so.
You'll hear our full interview with Corry, including more on his recovery from that horrific injury, the highs and the lows of a career in England and his hopes for the successful playing future on Now That’s What I Call Sport, this Sunday morning between 9 and 10am.
