This morning on Dublin Talks we discussed the new law regarding adults smoking in the cars around children which will come in to effect in Ireland from January 1st. This will see adults who are caught smoking in the car where children are passengers hit with a €100 fine. We asked if you agree with this idea or if you believe it is over the top.

We heard from many people (smokers and non smokers) who believe that this idea is brilliant and should have been in place all along.

We then heard from a woman who has young children and said that she will never stop smoking in the car when they're there. She said "my kids, my choice. It does no harm" and believes that this is "scaremongering" from the government.

Her comments angered many of you, in particular one listener who called in to tell us he has witnessed first hand what passive smoking does and how he is now caring for his wife who is very ill as a result of him smoking in their apartment, she is not a smoker. He also told us that he himself now has severe heart problems as a result of long term smoking...
