“Caitlin was an absolutely amazing child, caring, gentle and loved by everyone.”
Heartbroken mother Debbie Davis spoke to Adrian Kennedy on 98FM’s Dublin Talks on Friday morning.
Her 17 year old daughter Caitlin passed away suddenly in an emergency helicopter from cardiac arrest after a visit to a local doctor’s surgery two weeks ago.
She had felt unwell and had chest paints due to her diabetes.
Having moved from South Africa to live in Bunclody with her family two and a half years ago, her parents want to lay her ashes to rest at home, where she would have wanted.
“You never ask your child where would you like to be buried but we just feel that would be her choice to go home.”
Caitlin’s grandparents were unable to afford to travel to Ireland for her funeral but they will be able to attend the burial of her ashes over Christmas if enough money can be raised.
She would have turned 18 on January 6th.
Debbie told Adrian that her family need help to raise funds to bring Caitlin home, with a local concert planned in Bunclody.
She hopes the band Hometown may play a part in the concert, as they were one of Caitlin’s favourite bands, she saw and met them in Kilkenny last year.
The family also want to set up a charity in her name to help other diabetes sufferers with specially trained dogs.
A bank account has been set up in the name ‘Debbie Davis’ in Bank Of Ireland Bunclody.
