Dubliner Matt Doherty has revealed he and his Wolves teammates always believed they could beat Liverpool.
The Reds were dumped out of their second cup competition in the space of a week after a 2-1 loss at home to the Championship side.
Wolves progressed to the fourth round of the competition following a 2-0 win over Stoke City, and Doherty said that win inspired them going into the clash at Anfiled:
"We had knocked Stoke out before - they had a full strength team out and we made 7 changes. We had this confidence coming into the game."
After seeing Jurgen Klopp naming a somewhat under-strength side for yesterdays encounter, Doherty says this spurred his teammates on further:
"We saw their line up and realised they had made quite a few changes. When we saw that, it wasn't like we still thought we were going to win. We expected to win. That's what happened and we deserved it ."
