Stand Up comedians, you may think that they're born but a lot of the time, they are made. Of course they're, like, born, we're all born... you know what I mean.... Sure, people come out of the womb funny but that doesn't necessarily mean they are going to be selling out a three night run in the 3 Arena. Like anything, being a stand up is a job and a lot of people go to school to learn how to do it and practice their arse off to actually get good.

Two of the funniest people in the world, Amy Poehler and Tina Fey met when they were taking classes at The Second City in Chicago where they learned how to be comedians. They're not alone. Notable alumni include Joan Rivers, Bill Murray, Steve Carrell and Julia Louis Dreyfus. Amy Poehler went on to co-found the UCB Training Center in New York where people learn how to do improv... yes, you could go to a school that Amy Poehler sometimes teaches in.

New York is a bit of a trek. If you want to stay closer to home, you can go to stand up classes in the Gaiety School of Acting which is exactly what Aoife Barry is doing.

Aoife is a journalist in TheJournal.ie and is currently attending a 10 week comedy course and by December will have to have the cojones to get up and make people laugh at a showcase.

This morning we caught up with Aoife to see how it's going.

You can follow Aoife's progress here.

Getting on stage and weeing myself would make people laugh, right? Cause that's the only way you'd get me up on that damn stage. Fair bloody play, Aoife.

Join Ray, JP and Muireann every weekday morning 6-10am only on 98FM.
