Folks,

98FM’s weekly sports show “Now That’s What I Call Sport” airs every Sunday morning from 9-10am.

Presented by myself Johnny Lyons, this week’s show broadcast on Sunday July 12th features the following guests :

  1. Pillar Caffrey –

The former boss of the Dubs comes on to talk about the inevitable hammering the Boys in Blue are gonna dish out to Westmeath in the Leinster Football Championship final at Croke Park on Sunday afternoon.

Or maybe not as the case may be.

Pillar – who managed the Dubs between 2004-08 just missing out on the glory years – doesn’t think it’s gonna be a procession.

He believes Westmeath will do a Jose Mourinho and park the bus at Croker.

To be fair to Westmeath they’ve probably had their All Ireland final already, beating their illustrious neighbours Meath for the first time in 23 attempts (the closest I can think of is that dreadful Irish run against the Kiwis in rugby).

Lord knows how many barrels of porther have gone down the oesophagi of the Westmeath natives!

Let’s hope the players have got off the alco runs and back on the treadmill for the big ‘un !

And spare a thought for the poor (in spirit) oul Meathmen – ah shure they’re walkin’ around the likes of Ashbourne and Dunshaughlin like extras from “The Walking Dead”! They still dunno what hit ‘em !

What’s gonna hit Westmeath on Sunday is the might of the Dubs with Brogan, Connolly and Rock ready to smash through as many parked double deckers as you can fit into Croker!

Trivia fans I know you’re all fascinated as to why he’s called Pillar – that’s cos he used to collect caterpillars as  a chisler !

And there’s only one way to end this piece – from pillar to post !

  1. Humphrey Kelleher –

Our much loved, over worked accountant Alan will think Humphrey’s on the 98 payroll!

It’s a tribute to the success of the hurling  in Dublin that former bainisteoir of the Dubs Humphrey is on so often !

And the Waterford native is on to look back on how the hurling Boys in Blue performed against Limerick at Semple Stadium in Thurles on Saturday evening – the latest in their play off games this season.

After that he’ll be e mailing his invoice into Alan !

  1. Shane Lowry –

Tis a big week for the Irish golfers bar the injured Rory -  who’s back playing Subbuteo which is all he should have been playin’ in the first place - as they up their preparations for next week’s Open.

That Championship has been a reasonable success for the Offalyman who burst onto the scene in ’09 when he won the Irish Open as an amateur which was an incredible achievement.

Last year Lowry finished tied ninth at the Open.

And Stephen Doyle finds out who Shane knocks around with – that’s with and not up !!

  1. Fergus Ryan –

SHOCK HORROR 98 EMPLOYS  A MASOCHIST!

But it’s true – Gus is physically harming himself this Sunday morning for the good of 98!

Our UFC expert, Gus ain’t gettin’ 40 winks as he’s gonna stay up way up into the early hours of the morning.

And that’s cos  Conor “Notorious” McGregor is fighting Chad Mendes in Vegas around 5 o’clock in the morn our time!

I’m prepared for a first on the show – a guest falling asleep during his time on the show!

No way baybee – the whip will be cracked!

Watch out Gus !

  1. Matt Doyle –

We always get our yearly contribution from Matt around this time.

And that’s cos the greatest Irish tennis player of all time is booked in every year to preview the men’s singles final at Wimbledon.

We dunno yet who’ll be in the final – it could be Federer-Djokovic or it could be Murray-Gasquet – whatever way it is it’s always a cracker!

And cothrom na feinne to Matt who made it in to the Top 65 in the world which is huge in tennis – he’s in San Fran visiting his sis but he’s still takin’ the 98 call !

We’ll also be hearing from Dublin football manager Jim Gavin and former skipper Bryan Cullen.

Competition:

2 pairs of tix for Dublin against Westmeath in the Leinster Championship final at Croke Park.

Thanks,

Johnny.
