All good things come to those who wait!
Dundalk players Andy Boyle and Daryl Horgan have been named in the Republic of Ireland senior squad for the first time.
They are among 35 players named by Manager Martin O’Neill in a provisional squad for next Saturday’s World Cup qualifier in Austria.
Horgan has been in flying form on the wing for Dundalk this season as Stephen Kenny’s team won their third SSE Airtricity League of Ireland Premier Division title in a row.
Along with centre-back Boyle, they’ve also played a starring role in Dundalk’s European campaign, which continues with a Europa League trip to Zenit St. Petersburg on Thursday night, before Sunday’s FAI Cup final against Cork City.
Both players are reported to be on the ‘hit lists’ of a number of UK clubs and could make their Ireland senior debuts next weekend, although they are unlikely. to start the match, they could make the cut down squad.
The Ireland boss has been outlining why they’ve finally made a squad, after previous gaffer Giovanni Trapattoni famously said “there is no league in Ireland”
O’Neill has named just four strikers in the squad and confirmed that Shane Long is out with a hamstring problem.
The squad (below) will be cut before the players meet up next week.
