When Jack Watson was found dead on Suffolk Street, the Dublin public were united in grief and in their calls for more to be done to help homeless people like him and get them off the streets and to a safe place.
A vigil in memory of Watson was planned for this week but it has been cancelled by charity group ‘Home Sweet Home’ after details emerged about his past.
Watson had been deported from Australia after a series of serious offences.
The 51 year old's Australian visa was cancelled in October 2015 after a string convictions including being found guilty of the sexual assault of two underage girls in the in 2008.
We spoke about the issue on 98FM’s Dublin Talks on Wednesday.
Presenter Adrian Kennedy and 98FM’s Derek Ryan had differing views.
One caller also said that Watson was “still a human” and that he “deserved a better end” while others suggested he should have been "left to rot."
