The Dublin bus drivers will down their tools and refuse to drive their routes from midnight on Wednesday until Saturday morning in a row over pay.
There have been calls for the Minister for Transport Shane Ross to allow all vehicles to use the bus lanes during the strike to ease traffic congestion.
Both the Gardai and the Minster have confirmed that normal rules will apply on Thursday and Friday and anyone who is using a bus lane illegally, will face the usual penalties.
