Back to school time - even if you don't have children, you would have been acutely aware of it because all of the traffic on the road this morning. You'll have to wait another 8 weeks to glide into work without a care in the world when the schools are on mid-term.... they only have 8 weeks until another holiday; why did we want to leave school?
JP actually didn't want to leave. So much so that he did his leaving cert year twice. Loved it so he did. This morning, JP brought us his Back to School Top 10.
Number 7 was life on that first day for me.
I had older sisters so number 3 involved my books being covered in Kylie and Jason posters. I was so cool...
Back to School Top 10:
10. Looking through your new text books for the next year thinking you’re never going understand all this new stuff
9. You notice everyone else.......grew an extra foot over the summer break
8. Being secretly really relieved that your best mate wants to sit beside you as much as you want to sit beside them
7. Getting excited about all the lovely new stationery you have for the new year
6. Noticing that the school building smells like nowhere else on earth – that’s the smell of fear
5. You check the time-table to see what double-classes you have and what day PE is on – you really want it to be on a Friday because it means you’ve got a soft end to the week
4. It’s your first day back and you’re already working out how long you’ve got until Midterm Break in October – it’s around 8 weeks
3. Worrying that the other kids will think you’re a nerd for covering your books in brown paper or old bits of wallpaper
2. Promising yourself that you’re going to keep your brand new school shoes spotless for the whole year – five minutes later, they’re wrecked
1.Listening to the teacher tell you that the previous crowd were a bunch of wasters and it’s time to knuckle down or you’ll miss the boat, this is the most important year of your life and will decide your future
