Folks,

98FM’s weekly sports show “Now That’s What I Call Sport” airs every Sunday morning from 9-10am.

Presented by myself Johnny Lyons, this week’s show broadcast on Sunday April 19th features the following guests :

  1. Des Smyth –

Tis always great to have a golfing legend on the show.

And Des surely fits the bill.

25 professional wins including eight on the European Tour and a famous one in 2001 when he became the oldest man to win on the Tour when finishing first in Madeira.

His on course talent allied to an affable personality meant he was a shoo in for Ryder Cup involvement – he played twice and was vice captain on two occasions both in 2006 and 2014.

Des will talk about Rory McIlroy and the reasons why he didn’t win the first Major of the season the Masters.

We’ll also deal with the walkaway winner Jordan Spieth and whether he poses a substantial threat to Rory’s dominance.

Oh and the ability to conjure something out of nothing doesn’t stop in the Smyth family at Des with the son of Des  winning 9 million in the lottery some years ago!

      2 .  Tony Ward –

Quite simply Tony was one of the best rugby players the world has ever seen.

A five star performer, Wardy togged out for the Lions, Ireland, Munster and Leinster during a star studded career.

And won the European Player of the Year award back in ’79.

Leinster feature in the biggest match of their season to date with Tony looking ahead to the European Champions Cup semi final with Toulon at the Stade Velodrome in Marseille.

  1. Humphrey Kelleher –

Ger Cunningham has worked the oracle with the Dubs !

The new manager of the Boys in Blue has come in and reinvigorated an ailing Dublin hurling side.

Cunningham needed to inject some new blood into the team and he’s succeeded in that by bringing the likes of Mark Schutte and Chris Crummy into the team.

And he’s pushed Liam Rushe right up top which should pay dividends as the weather gets hotter.

In contrast, Conal Keaney has moved backwards and that switch has reaped a rich harvest already with much better distribution to the attackers.

Improved technique was another goal of the new manager and signs are he’s got that right too with the Dubs scoring 20 points or more six times this season !

Former manager Humphrey previews Sunday’s National Hurling League semi finals between Dublin and Cork at Nowlan Park in Kilkenny as well as Tipp against Waterford.

Competition :

100 euro voucher from Halpenny Golf.

Thanks,

Johnny.
