After winning the Meteor Choice Music prize song of the year for 'Superheroes' and knowing that a bunch of 98FM listeners are flying over to London especially to see them, The Script are having a good week. I thought we might give them a bit of Irish love and bring them down to earth and choosing them for 'Deadly or Dump It.' You're welcome, lads.
The song - Man on A Wire - is the 3rd single from their No.1 album, 'No Sound Without Silence.' It the sort of thing The Script like to sing about, love, ultimately unrequited until a girl notices how Danny rocks skinny jeans.*
The video is inspired by Philippe Petit, the French tightrope artist who gained worldwide fame in the 70s for walking between the two towers of the World Trade Center in New York and, not to be outdone or run home to his mammy for help, Danny flipping walked on a wire between the two highest buildings in Cape Town. Ok, with a harness but I'm not running out to do it.
Danny O'Donoghue giving the metaphorical middle finger to CGI.
Fair play Danny. Glen Power drumming on the edge of a building almost gave me vertigo and Mark Sheehan, well, just watch and see what Mark is up to.
I can't help but thinking that Danny's pants were the entirely wrong thing to wear on a tightrope walk. Not a bit of give in them, he could have done himself a mischief.
It's up to you what happens to this song on the show: Deadly or Dump It?
*Danny's skinny jeans may not matter that much thematically to songs from The Script - but they should.
