Folks,
98FM's weekly sports show "Now That's What I Call Sport" airs every Sunday morning from 9-10am.
Presented by myself Johnny Lyons, this week's show broadcast on Sunday September 14th features the following guests :
1. David Forde -
The Irish number one is certainly in the news at the moment.
It must have come as a surprise to him - as well as the rest of us - when the retired Shay Given was parachuted into the Republic of Ireland squad the weekend before the opening Euro qualifier against Georgia.
I guess it's not what's in front of you that's the problem in life but what clatters you from all the other angles (Johnny "Confucius" Lyons) !
In the end Fordey hung onto his jersey and was again faultless as the Boys in Green picked up an invaluable three points in Tblisi.
He's also enjoyed a decent start to his club season with Millwall in the Championship.
Fordey tells us why he's still the best keeper in Ireland.
2. Kevin Sheedy -
A living legend both in Ireland and on Merseyside.
As the other guy who put the ball in the back of the English net and scorer of our first ever goal in a World Cup finals when he crashed one in against the English during Italia 90, Kevin enjoys legendary status here on the Emerald Isle and on the blue half of Scouseland where he won 2 Leagues and a European Cup Winners Cup medal with Everton (ironically he started his career with Liverpool).
Kev had one of the sweetest left foots in football and used it to deadly effect on the pitch - his autobiography is called "So Good I Did It Twice" which is titled after a famous incident for Everton against Ipswich when his free kick was bent into the net in one corner and when the ref ordered the free to be taken again he promptly curled the second effort into the other top corner !
That was one mountain climbed but - as he'll explain on Sunday - his greatest battle was against the dreaded C word.
Kev got bowel cancer which threatened to place him in the annals of history but he's - touch wood - made a full recovery and is back in rude health.
Sheedy looks back over his career and tells us what he thinks of Ireland's chances of qualifying for Euro 2016 in France.
3. Eamon Sheridan -
First time you fail get up and try, try again!
Eamon's the living embodiment of that exhortation.
A succession of injuries meant his Leinster career never took off and he took the career changing decision to jet off to London and chance his luck there.
And his fortunes changed for the better as - after a brief spell with Rotherham - he joined London Irish and, with his game flourishing with the Exiles, he's attracted the attention of Irish coach Joe Schmidt.
It's onwards and upwards for our Eamon !
