Tributes have been pouring in for Cameroon midfielder Patrick Ekeng.
The 26 year old died after collapsing on the pitch while playing for Dinamo Bucharest last night.
He was taken to hospital but tragically passed away two hours later.
He had only been on the pitch for 7 minutes after coming on as a sub.
The Romanian league match against Viitorul Constanta was live on TV on Friday night.
He died of a suspected heart attack.
Statement
His club released a statement on their Facebook page last night
"Dinamo tonight lost footballer Claude Patrick Ekeng Ekeng forever. On behalf of all of Dinamo, sincere condolences to the bereaved family. God rest his soul."
Hospital officials claim he did not receive adequate first aid treatment at the ground, which was denied by the club's doctor.
Dinamo's club doctor Liviu Batineanu said he performed cardiac massage. The player was put into an ambulance less than three minutes after collapsing.
Local media say police have begun an investigation into his death.
The Romanian Football Federation has postponed all matches this weekend following his death.
Ekeng is not the first Cameroon international to die following a collapse on the pitch.
Marc-Vivien Foe passed away in 2003, after collapsing on the pitch during a Confederations Cup match against Columbia.
The Cameroon FA also paid tribute to him.
"What a tragedy. We have just learned of the death of our international footballer Patrick Ekeng on the field during a league match. Cameroon and the great family of Cameroonian football are in mourning. Pending an official report on this tragic incident, we have lost a son and a brother.”
"RIP Ekeng Ekeng, RIP indomitable lion."
