Bohemians 2-1 Limerick

By Jamie Moore

Bohs are up to third in the SSE Airtricity League Premier Division after this win while Limerick are still searching for their first win of the season, they have not won any of their opening 12 league matches and are still on the bottom of the table.

Bohs opened the scoring in the 11th minute from another Lorcan Fitzgerald corner. His out-swinger was powerfully headed to the net by Derek Prendergast. The Bohs centre-back became a dad to a baby son on Wednesday and did the customary baby  celebration with his team-mates.

Bohs could have been further ahead by half-time, Roberto Lopes’ header after just 28 seconds looped just over the crossbar while Dean Kelly’s header actually hit the crossbar, but the flag was up so it wouldn’t have counted.

Kelly could have had a bizarre goal just minutes into the second half after chasing down a back-pass, Limerick ‘keeper Conor O’Donnell kicked his clearance straight off Kelly, it rebounded off the post and the lucky O’Donnell was able to claim it on the line.

Limerick really grew into the game and deservedly equalised seven minutes after half-time through the excellent Dean Clarke. He poked the ball into the net after Paudie O’Connor’s first effort had been blocked on the line by Fitzgerald.

Clarke’s pace caused the Bohs back four problems all evening and he was unlucky not to add to his tally.

Then Keith Long sprung master marksman Byrne from the bench with 13 minutes left and he did what he does best just six minutes later, finishing low into the net after Limerick had failed to clear an Adam Evans cross.

The goal had been coming after another sub, Marc Griffin had one effort saved by O’Donnell and another shot just wide.

Limerick’s wait for a win goes on but Bohs are up the third as the Keith Long Dalymount revolution continues.
