Folks,

98FM’s weekly sports show “Now That’s What I Call Sport” airs every Sunday morning from 9-10am.

Presented by myself Johnny Lyons, this week’s show broadcast on Sunday June 7th features the following guests :

 -          Aiden McGeady -

Aido’s the living footballing manifestation of the airline “frequent flyer” moniker.

On numerous excursions down both flanks with Ireland, Celtic, Spartak Moscow and Everton, Macca impressed far and wide with his silky skills and flashy artistry.

Unfortunately, he’s never really repeated the excellence of his exploits as a wunderkid and has flattered to deceive at regular intervals.

But there is an intangible that keeps drawing you back to Aiden – there’s always the tease of a spark of brilliance to light up a game.

And when he does deliver – as with the sublime winner against Georgia in our opening World Cup qualifier – it is a heavenly thing to watch.

Some of which we hope he delivers against England in the glamour friendly at the Aviva Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

Now Stephen Doyle produced his own massively productive flash of sublimity by drawing out some startling revelations during his exclusive to 98FM one on one interview with Aiden during the week including the fact that he played against Poland thanks to a painkilling injection and hadn’t told Everton of the skin puncturing.

Now there’s more to come from that particular well of inspiration – tune in on Sunday morning to hear more of Aiden opening up to Stevo!

-          Michael O’Grady –

They don’t do things easy those Dublin hurlers I’ll tell you that!

The Dubs opened up their Leinster Hurling Championship campaign with a draw against Galway at Croke Park on Sunday.

You got the feeling Ger Cunningham’s Boys in Blue were giving it everything while there’s the sneaky feeling that there’s more in the Galway locker (Note from PD – Johnny you must banish such negativity forthwith )!

The replay is on Saturday evening and former bainisteoir of the Dubs Michael will  pore over the ins and outs of the match.

-          Martin Buchan –

Ah the days of fizzlesticks, gobstoppers and Cadet cola!

And there were even Tunnock’s Tea Cakes (yummy yummy) back then but I didn’t know that then !

Yep we’re talkin’ about the ‘70’s folks – that decade when my undying love of Dutch football was born !

By the way, did you know that 1971 was the year when I would give anything – except my Phil Lynott hair – to have been aged 18 in?

And the reason? Seminal albums by Black Sabbath, Deep Purple, Led Zeppelin and Jethro Tull amongst many other gems released that year.

Anyway I slightly digress but Martin would certainly remember ‘em.

Captain of both Manchester United and Scotland, Martin was a legend at Old Trafford where he played for eleven years and skippered the Red Devils to FA Cup glory in 1977.

In fact, trivia fans, Buchan is the only player ever to have captained both English and Scottish FA Cup winning teams (Aberdeen in 1970 is  the other one).

Martin will tell us how he thinks the Ireland v Scotland European Championship qualifier at the Aviva Stadium will go and how Man U will fare in the Premier League under Louis van Gaal next season.

Now I’m off to raid my stash of Trigger bars !

 Competition :

Premium Level tix for Ireland v Scotland at the Aviva Stadium on Saturday week.

Thanks,

 Johnny.
