How're you feeling after the long weekend? A bit ropey? Fear at levels not seen since Robert De Niro was hanging around a cape in the 1990's? Science may have just the thing for you.

We'll have to send a big thank you basket to Australia if this actually works as scientists in the country have found that eating a pear or drinking 200ml's of pear juice before a big night could prevent a hangover ruining your life. 

According to scientists at the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO), pears can lower your blood alcohol level and, ta-da, hangover free. They measured the success using a scale of 14 common hangover symptoms and had the best results in the 'trouble concentrating' section. Think about it, what's your day like with a hangover? This?

Now, before you run out and buy all the pears that your handbag can carry, the research involved a particular kind of pear; A Korean or Asian pear works best which look more like apples than pears. 

What's wrong run of the mill pears? Why aren't you working as hard as your Asian cousins? Fear not, you can get Asian pears all over the place in Dublin so now there is no excuse to cancel the Sunday dinner with the family where they judge all of your life choices. Sorry about that.
